Escape Online 4 Site Hardware and Operating
System Requirements

Escape Online Site is part of the Escape Classic Finance and Purchasing systems. You may also want to read about the Escape Classic Hardware and Operating System Requirements.

This FYI is designed to describe the hardware and third-party software required to implement Escape Online 4 Site.

System Requirements for Escape Online 4 Site

System Requirements for the Escape database server, WAN servers and DOS client workstations will not change. However, Online will require the addition of a web server and the ability for all Online clients to access the web server using the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

Escape Online 4 Web Server Requirements

Escape Online Site runs on a special web server on your organization's intranet. If you have plans to migrate to Online in the near future, you should anticipate installing a web server, with the following specifications:

  • Pentium IV Processor (or multiple processors)
  • 1 Gigabyte memory
  • 9 Gigabyte disk drive
  • 100 Megabit connection to network
  • T1 connection to Internet
  • PCAnywhere 9.0 software, or Terminal Services, for IP access by Escape Technology. (The IP address will need access through your firewall.)

NOTE: Software and hardware requirements are constantly changing. Please contact Escape with your proposed system BEFORE purchase.

Microsoft Software Requirements

Escape Online requires some Microsoft software and licenses for the web server:

  • Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Service Pack 3

(Standard enterprise product with 25 CAL's) Since Escape users will access the server via browser and anonymous internet connection, there is no CAL issue. (You don't need to purchase additional CAL's unless you were to have more than 25 Win98/NT clients that would access the server directly, for some use other than Escape. Also note that Win2k professional workstation comes with the required CAL for that computer.) Check Microsoft's Windows 2000 site for more information.

NOTE: We recommend that Escape Online client computers access the Online server without passing through a proxy server.

  • SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition, Service Pack 3

With Processor License, one per processor in the Escape Online web server. Check Microsoft's SQL Server 2000 site for more information.

You can purchase all required Microsoft software and licenses through your normal channels. Since software versions are constantly being updated, feel free to call us for current revision levels before purchasing software or licenses.

Escape Online 4 Site Server Installation and Setup

Setup of Escape Online Site on a web server requires a number of steps, as outlined below:

  1. Purchase the server hardware and Microsoft and PCAnywhere (if necessary) software described above.
  2. Install the Microsoft and PCAnywhere software onto the server. When installing the Windows 2000 software, be sure to set up the IIS web server software.
  3. Schedule the Escape Online software installation. Once you have set up the server, we can install the Escape Online software remotely, via PCAnywhere. Just schedule with Escape to establish our PCAnywhere or Terminal Services connection. We will then install the Escape Online software.

Following installation:

  1. Schedule a site visit for software orientation and training.
  2. Test your new Online system prior to rollout.
  3. Bring users onto the system in a phased fashion.
